Craft Beer Styles You’ll Find at Moersleutel (and Why They Matter)

Moersleutel Vaasje Glass with technical design

Heavy, hoppy, dark, juicy craft beers — unapologetically bold.

A different kind of craft beer

At Moersleutel, we don’t do “mild.”
We brew to push boundaries — of flavor, body, aroma, and technique. That’s why our beers lean into intensity: thick motor-oil stouts, hazy IPAs that explode with hops, and aged monsters with 14% ABV.

But even we have range. From golden blond ales to rich barleywines, our lineup stretches across a wide spectrum of craft beer — as long as it’s interesting.
Here are some beer styles you’ll find in our world, and why they deserve a place in your fridge (or cellar).

1. IPA – Where hops go to shine

IPA (India Pale Ale) is the most versatile and expressive style in craft beer. And we love it. From juicy NEIPAs to ultra-dry triples, IPAs are a canvas for hop aroma, bitterness, and wild creativity.

At Moersleutel, we brew IPAs that:

  • Smell like citrus groves and tropical storms

  • Hit hard with dry-hopped intensity

  • Range from hazy juicebombs to clear and bitter beasts

Try this:
Fruit Bomb NEDIPA – loaded with Sabro & Mosaic. Tropical, creamy, and crushable.
Crank the Juice NEIPA – Refreshing citrus meets hops. Exactly how we like it.

Pairs with: Spicy wings, ramen, sharp cheese, chaos.

2. Stout – Thick, roasty, decadent

Let’s be honest: this is our signature style. We didn’t just dip our toe into the stout pool — we dove in.
Moersleutel stouts are famous for their full body, decadent flavors, and bold ABVs.

We brew:

  • Classic imperial stouts where we build flavor with the basics; malts, yeast, hops and water

  • Adjunct bombs want something more fancy with craft coffee, vanilla, coconut, or hazelnut

  • Big pastry stouts that feel like dessert in a glass

Try this:
Motor Oil – our flagship imperial stout, dark as night and thick as syrup
Coffee Grinder Stout – can’t decide between coffee of beer? We’ve got you

Pairs with: Brownies, blue cheese, rainy evenings and doom metal.

3. Barrel-Aged Stouts – Complexity on another level

Take everything you love about stouts — and give it time. Barrel aging adds warmth, depth, and character from whisky, bourbon or rum barrels. It softens rough edges and brings out vanilla, oak, and spice.

Our BA stouts are:

  • High ABV (12–15%)

  • Perfect for sipping (or cellaring)

  • Released in limited, wax-sealed batches

Pairs with: Patience, dark chocolate truffles, and people who respect high gravity and love craft beer exploration.

4. Blond Ale – The exception that proves the rule

Not every Moersleutel beer needs to be 12% and chewy. Sometimes we want to surprise you with something golden, smooth, and bright.

Our blond ales:

  • Have a Belgian soul with modern twists

  • Are subtle in spice, soft in bitterness, often brewed with interesting hops or yeast strains

  • Perfect entry-point for newcomers

Try this:
Blond – fruity esters, subtle hops, dangerously drinkable

Pairs with: Roast chicken, gouda, a second glass.

5. Witbier – Soft, citrusy and refreshing

Yes, we make big stouts. But we also love a well-balanced witbier — soft, hazy, and full of subtle spice. It’s the beer you want after mowing the lawn… or during brunch.

Our takes often include:

  • Orange peel and coriander, but not overdone

  • Low bitterness, high drinkability

  • A base for summer experiments

Try this:
Wit – wheat, zest, sunshine in a can.

Pairs with: Sushi, goat cheese, and sunshine.

6. Quadrupel & Barleywine – Rich, boozy, and underrated

Looking for malt complexity and slow-sipping bliss? Our quadrupels and barleywines are built for impact — warm, dark, and layered.

  • Quadrupel: Dark fruits, candi sugar, clove

  • Barleywine: Toffee, fig, sherry vibes

  • Often aged or blended for added depth

Try this:
Quad – our quadrupel with an harmonious balance of sweet red fruits, deep warming caramel and spices and subtle floral tones
Our current barley wines

Pairs with: Sharp cheeses, rich stews, quiet nights in.

Final thoughts

We don’t brew beer for the middle of the road. Whether it’s hop-saturated IPAs, motor-oil-thick stouts, or boozy barrels dripping with vanilla, we brew what we love — and hope you feel it too.

So if you want a taste of what speciaalbier can really mean — explore the styles above, and start with the ones that scare you a little.

Curious? Good. That’s where the fun begins.
