Moersleutel Barcode Nitro Blue – Barrel Aged Imperial Nitro Stout 14%
A Silkier Dimension to Barrel Aging
Introducing Moersleutel Barcode Nitro Blue, a luxurious evolution of our barrel-aged stout tradition. For this special edition, we blended port and brandy barrels to craft a beer with deep notes of red fruit, dark chocolate, and refined spirit warmth.
The blend is built from three different base beers, one of which was fermented with Belgian yeast — adding delicate esters and fruity complexity that beautifully enhance the character of the port and brandy wood. The barrels also contribute tannins, adding structure, depth, and a wine-like elegance to this intensely robust stout.
And then comes the innovation: instead of carbon dioxide, we infused the beer with nitrogen, creating a velvet-soft, creamy mouthfeel that perfectly highlights the fruity nuances within this heavy, spirit-kissed barrel-aged stout.
The result is a uniquely decadent drinking experience —
a rich, layered, and impossibly smooth Nitro Barrel Aged Stout.
The Craft Behind Barcode Nitro Blue
Port & Brandy Barrels Meet Nitro Innovation
Barcode Nitro Blue is the intersection of wood aging, blending artistry, and nitrogen engineering.
A Barrel Blend Designed for Depth
The combination of:
-
Port barrels – rich red fruit, dried cherries, soft sweetness
-
Brandy barrels – warm oak, caramel, grape skin complexity
creates a tapestry of flavors that unfold slowly with each sip.
Three Base Beers, One Harmonious Blend
One of the base beers was fermented with Belgian yeast, contributing:
-
Red fruit esters
-
Subtle spice
-
Lifted complexity
that integrate perfectly with the barrel character.
This layered approach ensures the final blend is complex, expressive, and incredibly balanced.
Nitrogen Instead of CO₂: A New Luxury
Why nitro? Because nitrogen:
-
Softens the mouthfeel
-
Enhances the perception of fruit
-
Creates a creamy, silky pour
-
Reduces sharp carbonation bite
This gives the stout a dessert-like creaminess without diminishing its intensity.
